    The Office of Community Engagement and Experiential Learning (CEEL) serves as a connector of students, faculty, staff and community partners for community engagement at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓƵ. CEEL brings together students, faculty, staff, and off-campus partners to co-create conditions for community thriving with local partners through developing mutually beneficial partnerships with local schools and nonprofit organizations, while co-learning with ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓƵ students as they apply classroom knowledge, develop leadership skills, and reflect meaningfully.

    What We Do

    CEEL initiatives are grounded in reciprocity, equity, reflection, and community voice. We prioritize partnerships that are responsive to local priorities and centered in long-term relationship building.

    • School and community partnerships rooted in shared goals and community-identified priorities, including the ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓƵ Community Schools Consortium (LUCSC).
    • Community Engaged Learning (CEL) courses that integrate academic learning with community-identified needs co-developed with partners when possible.
    • Experiential learning opportunities that extend learning beyond the classroom.
    • Student leadership development as community practice, including the Community Engaged Learning Facilitator (CELF) Program.
    • Inclusive access programs for community members, such as Community Connections at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓƵ (CCLU).
    • Civic education and dialogue opportunities, including voter registration and engagement.
    • Host Annual Roundtable, a Community-wide networking event for ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓƵ faculty/ staff and community members to interact and share ideas and opportunities.

    Community partners are essential co-educators in CEEL’s work. Their lived expertise, leadership, and priorities shape how we design, implement, and reflect on all community-engaged initiatives.

    CEEL collaborates with faculty, students, and community partners to strengthen community-engaged teaching, learning, and partnership development across and beyond the university.

    Each initiative is grounded in collaboration, reflection, and a commitment to justice-focused learning.

    Resources and Support

    • Collaborative support for faculty, including course development assistance, professional learning workshops, reflection tools, and connections with community and school partners to support community-engaged learning experiences.
    • Opportunities for students, including leadership development roles, experiential learning pathways, and paid community-based student employment that connects academic learning with community-identified priorities.
    • Partnership supports co-developed with schools and community organizations, including opportunities for campus and community-based engagement that centers youth development, family engagement, and community well-being.
    • Collaborative learning and partnership-building, including events like the Roundtable and workshops
