ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ' Biology degree curriculum is the perfect starting point for your Allied Health degree program. Your faculty advisor will work with you to strategically customize your Biology curriculum to your future program requirements. Assuming you make appropriate academic progress, you should be able to complete these specialty clinical bachelor's programs within four years and master's programs within five years.

Dual Degree Options
Students may choose any of these tracks as a double major, and secure their Biology, B.S. degree from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ as well by completing a 4+1 version of the program.
3+2 Allied Health Master's Degrees
With our pre-professional affiliations, you can move on to your Masters program after only your 3rd year at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ, and earn your Biology, B.S. from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ, along with your master's degree from our partner institutions.
Note: Program completion does not guarantee your acceptance into an affiliate program. Each institution has a selection committee who reviews applications and interviews qualified applicants from each of the affiliated institution, including ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ. The more successful elective coursework you complete in the Biological Sciences, the better. If you are not accepted into a particular program of your choice, you will still be able to complete your Biology, B.S. degree within the typical 4-year time frame, and then, if you wish, reapply to the degree program or to the certificate version of the program.
3+1 Allied Health Bachelor's Degrees
Diagnostic Medical Sonography, B.S.
As a sonographer, you will use cutting-edge equipment to generate internal patient images using high-frequency sound waves - in order to diagnose conditions without intervention. Your first three years of classes are at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ, with your last three semesters (as well as summer sessions) of classes and clinical rotations administered at , upon which you will receive your degree from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ.
Note: The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program has a 3 semester clinical portion, resulting in a 4 ½ year program.
Certificate-Only Option
Students have the option to complete their Biology degree from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ, and then complete the coursework and clinical rotations to receive their certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography directly from Northwestern.
Histotechnology, B.S.
Histotechnologists play a fundamental role in the allied health profession. A histotechnologist will prepare very thin slices of human, animal or plant tissue for microscopic examination. This is an important part of the intricate process of scientific investigation used in establishing and confirming patient diagnosis. Students in this program will complete 3 years in the Biology program at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ and apply in the third year to enter Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH) for the last 2 semesters.
The clinical portion at NMH is a 12-month program (August to August). This program is fulltime with 8 months of required lectures, labs and clinical training and 4 months clinical rotation in Histology, Special Stains, Gross Room and Cytology. Students will earn a Histotechnology degree from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ and will sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnology (HTL) certification exam.
Students may also double major in Biology and Histotechnology. This would take five years with the first four years spent taking classes at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ and the last year at NMH. Students would apply for the Histotechnology program in the spring of their fourth year with the understanding that NMH determines acceptance into this program.
Nuclear Medicine Technology, B.S.
With the development of new radiopharmaceuticals, cancer-detecting and cancer-killing agents, and new hybrid imaging, the field of nuclear medicine is growing at break-neck speeds - with a unique ability to determine physiological function at the molecular level. Your first three years of classes are at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ, with your fourth and final year of classes at or the , upon which you will receive your degree from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ.
Radiation Therapy, B.S.
Learn state-of-the-art radiation therapy in order to treat localized tumors while preserving regional function. Your first three years of classes are at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ, with your fourth and final year of classes and clinical rotations administered at , upon which you will receive your degree from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ.
Vascular Ultrasound Technology, B.S.
2+2 ProgramAs a vascular sonographer, you will use cutting-edge equipment to investigate major arteries and veins without intervention. Your first two years of coursework are at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ, with your last two years at Rush University College of Health Science, upon which you will receive your degree from Rush University.
3+2 Allied Health Master's Degrees
Clinical Nutrition, M.S.
As a clinical nutritionist, you will be trained to work in careers in public health, research, private industry and academic settings. Nutritionists develop food plans to help people prevent and treat chronic diseases or just maintain healthier lifestyles. This 3+2 agreement allows students to complete three years of course work at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ before moving on to a two year program at Rush University, upon which you will receive your Biology B. S. from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ and your Clinical Nutrition, M.S. from Rush University.
Medical Laboratory Sciences, M.S.
As a medical laboratory scientist, you will perform tests critical to the diagnosis, treatment, management and prevention of disease. This 3+2 agreement allows students to complete three years of course work at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ before moving on to a two year program at Rush University, upon which you will receive your Biology, B.S. from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ and your Medical Laboratory Sciences, M.S. from Rush University.
Respiratory Care, M.S.
As a respiratory therapist, you will play a critical role in caring for patients with cardiopulmonary deficiencies and abnormalities. This 3+2 agreement allows students to complete three years of course work at ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ before moving on to a two year program at Rush University, upon you will receive your Biology, B.S. from ÃÛÑ¿ÊÓÆµ and your Respiratory Care, M.S. from Rush University.
